Take My Badge, But My Heart Remains

I don’t really know what it is about the Black Keys that has gotten me all excited. I never really saw myself as a fan, but ever since ‘Tighten Up’ began to occupy my playlist, the band has left an indelible mark in my mind. A mark that’s deeply-rooted, stubborn, and unyielding from ever releasing itself of a space it has rightfully earned. Almost every time the song comes on in my iPod, the same routine always quickly follow, “Whose song IS THIS?? It’s FANTASTIC!”

Similar to their previous releases, Brothers offers listeners the same brand of rock music they’ve displayed in the past, only this time their songs come with a dose of accessibility. The rock-duo creates a heady mix of gritty blues-rock, vintage soul and R&B with the greatest of ease. Blistering and grooving guitars accents the cavernous backbeat, creating such force and such rhythm that leaves behind a listening experience that’s both ferocious and soulful at the same time. Just because I’m feeling generous, here are two for the road. And if that’s not enough, here’s another, a cover to be more specific and a spectacular one at that.
