Covers, B-Sides, and Rarities: The Feeling's "Video Killed the Radio Star"

As you all, I presume, are familiar with the British pop band, the Feeling, then there’s no doubt that you are also aware of the Feeling’s reinterpretation of the Buggles 1979 hit song, ‘Video Killed the Radio Star’. This is a rather nice one by the band, and yet, it’s not even theirs-- although props to the band for choosing the right song to be made into a cover. I also only just knew this; that the video to this Buggles song was the first ever to be played on MTV back in 1981during the channel’s debut. I also couldn’t help thinking: Why this video? I’ve watched it, and there’s nothing remarkably special to it. But when you’re a music video channel trying to appeal to the masses for the first time ever, I guess there’s no better statement to make, then to declare, “Radio is dead.”

Whilst the original sounded a little more subdued and restrained, the Feeling’s version, is energetic and all-out-- it's pretty visible to the ears, that the band made it a point to really give it their all. Like in one comment, on the YouTube video, “…The Feeling's version is a bit edgier than the original” Edgier indeed!
