Covers, B-Sides and Rarities: Crazy In Love

There must be something wrong going on with the world today, otherwise I wouldn’t have put up a picture of Beyonce. Although this maybe very painful to say, let’s call this week edition of ‘covers, b-sides and rarities’ a tribute to the voluptuous singer, Beyonce ‘I really love myself’ Knowles.

Doing a cover version of Justin Timberlake’s songs is still acceptable, but Beyonce….I’m not sure. I guess it all depends on how you do it.

Both Snow Patrol and Magic Numbers has come out with their version of Beyonce’s ‘Crazy in Love’. One is okay, the other one should be thrown into the bin.

Snow Patrol’s version has really nothing special to it. It’s just like the original with an exception of Gary Lightbody’s vocals crooning through the entire song. It’s bad to the point that I prefer the original version better. Maybe Snow Patrol shouldn’t be singing songs like this in the first place.

Magic Numbers, on the other hand, gave the song a total makeover. It became this mellow, easy tune that I couldn’t believe that it was originally sung by Beyonce. Magic Numbers version made me realize that ‘Crazy in Love’ actually has a nice melody to it that I haven’t noticed earlier because of the various distractions.

I’m not even going to bother to put up the original version because honestly, everyone knows how it sounds like.
