Nickel Eye

Goodness! I just found this out via Strokes forum, 'Oh, Someday': It appears that another Strokes member is doing a solo project, and this time it's none other than the band's bassist himself, Nikolai Fraiture. Well, well, well... now who would've thought-- can't believe he's been keeping it quiet all this time. He's already got an album on the way, slated for release this fall, called The Time of the Assasins, under the name 'Nickel Eye' bearing songs that are more folk rock than just plain Strokes. So far we can only make our judgments based on two songs from the album, that was recently played on Mark Ronson's "Authentic Shit", radio show. Just listening to the two tracks have gotten me interested in what more Nikolai's got hidden under his sleeve, but I won't be so bold as to say that it's fucking brilliant, although it's actually quite good; nice touches of reggae in 'Brandy of the Damned', kind of Room On Fire-esque if you will.

Take a listen, here are rips from the show (via Oh_Someday):
