The Pigeon Detectives

The Pigeon Detectives I think, are truly my kind of lads, I mean what kind of band calls themselves ‘The Pigeon Detectives’? My point exactly. The band cites a lot of musical influences in their MySpace page of various bands ranging from the Strokes to the Kinks and by proof of their music, it’s blatantly clear that these guys are unashamed to admit from who they rip off some of those imposing guitar riffs.

Hailing from Rothwell, Leeds, the Pigeon Detectives are an English Indie Rock band (Indie Rock of course, what else?) who’s supported bands such as Dirty Pretty Things and Kaiser Chiefs who also admits to be great fans of the band (Kaiser Chiefs; what bands are they not a fan of? If you get what I mean). Apart from that, during the Jo Whiley show the band made a rather nonplussed impression by performing a cover version of Avril Lavigne’s ‘Girlfriend’. That almost felt like a plunge right through my heart, forcefully wrecking my brain to ruins. Can there be a more ridiculous cover song choice? I didn’t think so.

Placing all those nightmares behind us; rip off or no rip off, the band have certainly managed to come up and create their own signature style and sound which to my ears, is nothing short of amazing. You've got to love the ripping guitar swings to the relentless barrage of pummeling bass and drums sustained by both tunes of 'I'm Not Sorry' and 'Romantic Type' and when I say love it, I mean love it or esle.
